WPSS 1:1 Chromebook Initiative

Overview:

Washington Parish School System students in grades 1-12 will use their assigned WPSS device in and outside of school.

Quick Facts

  • Students will be assigned a Chromebook, charger, and protective sleeve.
  • Students and parents must read and sign the WPSS Device Agreement Form and Acceptable Use Policy before the device can be taken home.
  • Families are responsible to safeguard the issued device and to report any problems with the device to the school immediately.
  • If the Chromebook is lost, stolen, or damaged beyond repair as a result of negligence, families will be subject to a fee for the replacement of the Chromebook and charger.
  • Students are expected to take the Chromebook to and from home every day.
  • Teachers may set additional requirements/restrictions for technology use within their individual classrooms.
  • Students have access to the WiFi by using their login credentials while in school.
  • The Chromebooks utilize a cloud-based web filter that applies both in and outside of school. At home, students will access the Internet by connecting to their own wireless, but will continue to have their internet access monitored by the WPSS web filter. This will be seamless and transparent to the students, thus school settings and filtering will continue on the Chromebook at home.
  • The District reserves the right to monitor any and all activity originating from district-issued devices.

Student Pledge

  • I will take good care of the Chromebook and bring it to school every day.
  • I will never leave the Chromebook carelessly unattended.
  • I will never loan my Chromebook to other individuals.
  • I will know where my Chromebook is at all times.
  • I will charge the Chromebook battery every night.
  • I will not disassemble any part of the Chromebook or attempt any repairs.
  • I will protect the Chromebook by keeping it in the provided protective sleeve at all times.
  • I will use the Chromebook in ways that are appropriate, educational, and meet WPSS expectations.
  • I will not cover or deface the serial number or any other identifier on the Chromebook.
  • I understand that the Chromebook is subject to inspection at any time without notice and remains the property of the Washington Parish School System.
  • I will be responsible for all damage or loss caused by negligence or abuse. *(Chromebooks are insured for normal use.)
  • I agree to return the Chromebook and charger in good working condition at the end of each school year.
  • I have read and will follow the Washington Parish Acceptable Use Policy.
  • I understand if I withdraw or terminate enrollment in Washington Parish Schools for any reason, I must return the Chromebook, along with accessories, on that day.

Daily Use

  • Students will bring the fully-charged Chromebook to school every day.
  • Teachers have the discretion to determine when students may use technology in the classroom. Students will comply with the teachers’ requests to shut down or put away any technology.

Student Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for the general care of the Chromebook.
  • Use the provided protective sleeve at all times.
  • Leave the ID label and barcode untouched and visible on the Chromebook.
  • Report Chromebook malfunctions to school staff as soon as possible.
  • Use the Chromebooks in a safe, ethical, and responsible manner both in and outside of school.

Repair and Replacement

If a Chromebook needs repair, it is the student’s responsibility to bring it to the Library/Media Center (LMC) as soon as possible. The Chromebook must be handed to an LMC staff member along with a brief explanation of the problem. It cannot be dropped off on the counter. Should repairs be necessary, a loaner Chromebook will be checked out from the library media center to the student.

Safeguards

  • Students are responsible for the physical security of the Chromebook.
  • Never leave the device in an unlocked locker or any unsupervised area.
  • Never expose the Chromebook to extreme temperatures.
  • Never loan the Chromebook to another student.
  • If a Chromebook is stolen or lost during school hours it should be immediately reported to the LMC.
  • If a Chromebook is found unattended it will be taken to the LMC.
  • Adhere to the Washington Parish School System Acceptable Use Policy.
  • The Chromebook screen is sensitive and can easily be damaged if too much pressure and/or weight is placed on it.  The LCD is particularly sensitive to damage from excessive pressure on the screen.
    • Do not pick up/hold/carry Chromebook by the edge.  The pressure can crack the LCD underneath the screen.
    • Do not lean on the top of the Chromebook.
    • Do not overload carrying cases/backpacks to cause pressure against the Chromebook.
    • Do not "bump" the Chromebook against lockers, wall, car door, floors, desks, etc.
    • Clean the screen with a soft, dry cloth or anti-static cloth.
