Autism Team

Who we are: ACT Now for Autism is the WPSS District Autism Team that is composed of members of Pupil Appraisal, teachers, parents, para-professionals and others with a stake in the education of children with autism in the Washington Parish School System. The ACT Now team is lead by Intervention Coordinator, Sheryl Holliday.

What we do: ACT Now for Autism serves as a community resource and point of contact for Washington Parish teachers, parents, students and others that have an interest in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or have a child with ASD. We work alongside families and educators of students with ASD in order to facilitate educational opportunities as we work to build awareness about ASD, provide opportunities for meaningful and ongoing communication regarding ASD, and we work to develop a team of parents and professionals dedicated to make the education of students with ASD the best it can possibly be. We provide opportunities for on-going professional development via our “Network Nights, and have a lending library of resources available for checkout. In addition, ACT Now sponsors grants and scholarships that are available to teachers or parents of students with ASD in the WPSS. Each year during the month of April, ACT Now sponsors a Fun Run and 5K that brings Autism Awareness to the forefront in our community.
